Welcome to the Meditation Meadow & Labyrinth

A place to step away from the world's distractions and draw closer to yourself, to creation, and to God.

What is a labyrinth?

A labyrinth is an ancient Christian prayer practice with roots in the earliest centuries of the Church. Unlike a maze, a labyrinth has no dead ends and no wrong turns — only one path, winding gently toward the center and back out again. Walking the labyrinth is a moving meditation. It quiets the mind, slows the pace, and opens the heart to prayer and reflection. People of all faiths — and of no particular faith — have found it to be a powerful tool for centering and renewal. St. Bart's labyrinth is based on the historic Abingdon design, with roots in Christian pilgrimage traditions found in European cathedrals. It is set in stone in the heart of our Meadow and is open to all, every day.

Open to all

Dawn to dusk, seven days a week. No appointment needed. Walk at any time, for any reason.

No wrong way

Walk in silence. Pray aloud. Bring a question. Leave your worries. Whatever you bring, it is enough.

Free always

This space is St. Bart's gift to the community. There is never a cost to walk the labyrinth.

How to walk the labyrinth

There is no wrong way. Here is a simple guide if you would like one.

Take a breath before you begin. Set an intention, or simply arrive with an open heart.

There is only one path. Walk it at your own pace, letting the winding way do its work.

Allow worries, fears, and distractions to loosen their hold. Just breathe.

Repeat a verse, hum gently, or move in complete quiet — whatever centers you.

You may meet other pilgrims on the path. Pass with a nod and continue in peace.

When you arrive, stay as long as you need. Reflect on what arose during the walk.

Follow the same path back, carrying whatever peace or insight you have found into the world.

The Josephine Shippen Bluebird Trail

Throughout our campus, including the Meadow, look for the ten bluebird houses that make up our Josephine Shippen Bluebird Trail — installed in loving memory of a parishioner who cherished all of God's creatures. Josephine's memory lives on in every song that rises from these boxes.
