A place to step away from the world's distractions and draw closer to yourself, to creation, and to God.
A labyrinth is an ancient Christian prayer practice with roots in the earliest centuries of the Church. Unlike a maze, a labyrinth has no dead ends and no wrong turns — only one path, winding gently toward the center and back out again. Walking the labyrinth is a moving meditation. It quiets the mind, slows the pace, and opens the heart to prayer and reflection. People of all faiths — and of no particular faith — have found it to be a powerful tool for centering and renewal. St. Bart's labyrinth is based on the historic Abingdon design, with roots in Christian pilgrimage traditions found in European cathedrals. It is set in stone in the heart of our Meadow and is open to all, every day.
There is no wrong way. Here is a simple guide if you would like one.
Throughout our campus, including the Meadow, look for the ten bluebird houses that make up our Josephine Shippen Bluebird Trail — installed in loving memory of a parishioner who cherished all of God's creatures. Josephine's memory lives on in every song that rises from these boxes.
"This sacred space is our gift to the community. All have a place here."
Whether you have worshipped with us for years or are visiting for the very first time, you belong here. St. Bart's is a community where all are welcome — at the labyrinth, at the table, and in the pew. We would love to meet you.
