Saint Bartholomew’s

About Us

Our History

In 1951, a group of forty-five people participated in the first Holy Communion of the church, held in the old Masonic Hall in North Augusta. A year later, the first worship service was held in the original church building, pictured here. St. Bartholomew’s became a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina in 1959. Over the next 25 years, the church was guided by several clergy members, until The Rev. David Thompson became the Rector in 1985. For over 30 years, his welcoming personality and inspirational preaching were treasured until his retirement in 2015. After two years of transitional ministry, The Rev. Nancee Cekuta began her ministry as Rector of Saint Bartholomew's. Her forward thinking enabled us to strengthen our local outreach ministries and advance our technology in order to support our congregation during Covid. We are blessed to currently have The Rev. Joseph Shippen as our Rector. His welcoming personality, pastoral care, and most of all, love for Christ, has brought a new level of spiritual growth both within and outside the church.

St. Bart's Today

St. Bart's Today

God has called us to be a diverse community where all may encounter God’s love. God strengthens and nourishes us through the sacraments and speaks to us through scripture, tradition, and reason.

Our worship services are fully accessible in person and online, supported by a variety of music, good sermons, and relevant teaching. We provide a unique mix of the traditional and contemporary in both music and liturgy.

We strive, with God's help, to serve all who hunger for the unconditional love of Jesus Christ, spiritually, physically, and emotionally.

All have a place here.
