The Thursday Night Watch | April 2–3, 8 pm – 8 am

Thursday, April 2, 8 pm — Friday, April 3, 8 am Kept from your own home

Watching Through the Night

After the Maundy Thursday service ends in silence, something else begins.

"Could you not watch with me one hour?" — Matthew 26:40

Through the night — from 8 pm Thursday until 8 am Friday — members of St. Bartholomew's take turns keeping a private hour of prayer and vigil. Not at the church, but in their own homes. Across North Augusta, in the quiet of the night, the congregation watches together — apart.

How the Watch Works at St. Bart's

At many churches, the Thursday Night Watch is kept at the church building through the night. At St. Bartholomew's, we keep the Watch from home — one person or household per hour, in the privacy and safety of their own space.

You sign up for a specific one-hour slot. When your hour comes, you set aside that time for quiet prayer, scripture reading, or simply sitting in stillness. There is no prescribed format — only the intention to keep watch as the disciples were asked to do in the garden of Gethsemane.

What to Expect

🕯 One hour of private prayer from your own home 📖 Scripture suggested but no specific format required 🤍 Twelve slots available — 8 pm Thursday through 8 am Friday ✍️ Sign up below or on the sheet in the Parish Hall

Who Is This For?

The Watch is for anyone who wants to enter Good Friday having kept vigil through the night — even for just one hour. It is quiet, personal, and requires nothing more than a willingness to pause and be present.

It is especially meaningful for those who cannot attend the physical services during Holy Week but want to participate in the life of the community from home.
